This collection consists chiefly of Dr. Ferguson's writings.

Collection Historical Note

Thomas Ewing Ferguson, son of pioneer parents, was born March 8 1885, in Stephenville, Texas. After attending John Tarlton College in Stephenville, he went to the University of Texas where he received his bachelor's degree in 1912. Dr. Ferguson obtained the master's degree from Harvard College in 1915 and a doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Texas in 1930. Ferguson served as head of the English Department and Dean of SFA from 1932 until his retirement in 1955. Active in community affairs, he held leadership positions in the Lions Club, the Nacogdoches Rotary Club, and the Nacogdoches County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

A critic, essayist, and poet, Dr. Ferguson had works published in a number of professional periodicals. He also wrote scripts for a variety of local historical pageants and programs.
