Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of correspondence and research material for Kemper's graduate thesis on Lindley Beckworth, lawyer, Texas legislator, and U.S. representative, of Gilmer, Texas. Includes oral history interviews on cassette tapes.

Collection Historical Note

Billie Burke Bundick Kemper was born in Ranger, Texas on August 20, 1920. In 1938 she graduated from Tyler Commercial College, and worked for the Agricultural Adjustment Administration in Gilmer, Texas until World War II. She served in the Women's Army Corps from 1942 to 1945, then worked for the OSS (which later became the CIA) until her retirement from Civil Service in 1973. She received an Associate of Arts degree from San Antonio College in 1975, and a B. A. in History from SFASU in 1977.
