Collection Historical Note

Carolyn Reeves was born on May 12, 1931 in Fort Stockton, Texas. In 1955 she married Dr. Joe Ellis Ericson and they moved to Nacogdoches about 1957 where he joined the faculty at Stephen F. Austin State University. Mrs. Ericson holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas Tech University and has been a Certified Genealogist. She is active in numerous genealogical and women's associations. From about 1971 to 1980 Mrs. Ericson served as curator of the Old Stone Fort Museum, and helped to raise the $30,000 needed to keep the museum open during the 1979-1980 biennium when the state legislature failed to provide necessary funding. Since 1970 she has published a weekly genealogical query column, "Kissin' Kuzzins," in several East Texas newspapers. She has compiled, edited, and published many historical and genealogical materials on East Texas including census and cemetery records. Her biographical directory, Nacogdoches--Gateway to Texas, is a valuable aid for researchers of early Texas citizens. Source:
