Collection Historical Note

Peyton Forbes Edwards was born in Nacogdoches in 1844. He was the son of Sarah H. Forbes and Haden Harrison Edwards and the grandson of Haden Edwards. He served in the Texas Cavalry and as a brigade quartermaster during the Civil War. After graduating from the University of Virginia in 1867, Edwards practiced law in Nacogdoches where he also served as County Treasurer. From 1876-1879 he served in the state senate. He was judge of the third judicial district of Texas for four and a half years. In 1886 Edwards moved to El Paso where he died in 1918.
